Song Yang College
Song Yang was once 1 of China's top 4 academies or Shūyuàn. Acadamies were originalIy private establishments, built away from cities or towns, providing a quiet environment where scholars could engage in studies and contemplation without restrictions and worldly distractions. Song Yang was built in 997: Taishi Academy (Songyang Academy), bestowed by the Taizong emperor. Besides signboards, emperors also bestowed books, often copies of Confucian Classis printed by the Guozijian, literally "School for the Sons of the State", sometimes translated as the National School, National Academy, Imperial Academy, Imperial University.
Behind the academy stands Junji Mountain, part of the Songshan Mountain range. During the Ch'ing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong (1736-1796) made a tour of inspection and wrote: " Every fantastic scenic spot presents when I stand on the peak!" There is also the poem related to Junji Mountion by a most poet Fan Zhongyian: "You couldn't know so large the world unless you tour the Junji Mountain!"
